The dungeons aren't as glamorous as Abyss, but I found the puzzles to be a reasonable enough distraction. The story starts out really small time, and but you are at a major breaking point. However, I can tell you that the story gets far better. Being able to relate is nice, but I don't always need it. I don't really look to relate to characters as much as I look to really know and understand the character motives and personality. Even if the framerate doesn't bother you, I totally understand how a lazy remaster could impact one's impression of the game.

They didn't bother to make it run at 60fps like the GC version, improve the absolutely abysmal character animations, or even update the the enemy sprites. They updated the character models, and that's about it. ToS Chronicles has to be one of the laziest HD "remasters" of all time.

Going from location to location is so dull, and the backtracking for each sidequest (as well as the main quest) is asinine! How did people play this without a guide?ĭoes anyone feel the same way or am I just crazy?įirst of all, I'm sorry you're impression is coming from the PS3 version. There's the dog you can travel on, but it doesnt go any quicker). NO MAP TRAVEL?! and WHY IS IT SO SLOW TO WALK AROUND ON? (Yes, I know. Last but not least, my biggest struggle of all is the world map. I feel like they are just being told what to do. getting a merry band of characters to take on something impossibly bigger than they are (I'm not even sure who the main villain is at this point). While I feel like I should be more patient and wait for more of the story to pick up, it seems offputting that the game already is just about healing random people and not where 'Tales of' shines. I'm trying to relate to their struggles but it doesn't sit well. And the cast of characters, while Genis is charming, I simply CANNOT stand Colette and Lloyd. The combat, while it tries to have depth with the T and S system, shows its age as well. The puzzles are tedious and at times infuriating. The 3 boss fights I took on from where I am in the story felt like the game should have ended right there.

From where I am right now in the Colette turned full Angel, Kratos is revealed to be an angel., I don't see it getting any better.

I'm playing the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles on PS3, and I really can't see how the HD treatment helped this game. So you could say I'm spoiled by more modern 'Tales of' gameplay conventions and tropes. I was an am still a huge Playstation fan and didn't get started with Tales until Vesperia. Here's my background: I never played original Symphonia on the GC. This was hard for me to admit, as like many others on here, am in love with the 'Tales of' series and am convinced there are very few to no bad entries.
